The Right Formulation for All of Your Coating Needs

4000 Series Specialty Systems have a broad formulating range and are utilized to meet unusually demanding requirements of decorative and funtional applications. This series is recommended when conventional formulas will not meet a customer's performance specifications. Contact a TCI chemist to initiate a product design for demanding applications.

Characteristic ASTM # # Result
Specific Gravity 1.2 to 1.9 depending on color.
Theoretical Coverage Approximately 100 to 160 ft.2 / lb. / mil.
Optimum Storage <80° F, < 50%RH
Particle Distribution +44 microns (325 mesh). Percentage varies with color.
Film Thickness D-1186 Recommended, 1 to 6 mils.
Percent Gloss @ 60° D-523-89 1 to 99%
Pencil Hardness D-3363-00 2H to 6H
Adhesion D-3359-02 No lifting of 1/8" squares between scribed lines when
cross hatch adhesion is tested using the prescribed tape.
Flexibility D-522-93a A coating of 2 mils or less will withstand a bend of 180° over a 1/8" to 1/4" mandrel
without cracking or loss of adhesion. Depending on formulation.
Impact Resistance D-2794-93 20-160 inch-pounds, direct and reverse, at a film thickness of 1.5 mils.
Impact properties will be influenced by formulation.
Salt Spray Resistance B-117-97 With proper pretreatment, scribed films exhibit less than 1/16" undercoating after
1000 hours of exposure in 5% salt spray at 95° F and 95% relative humidity.
Humidity Resistance D-2247 Greater than 1000 hours with no effect at 100° F @ 100% RH.
Chemical Resistance Specialty products have excellent resistance to most chemicals and solvents.
Resistance properties will be influenced by the formula.
Overbake Polyesters can typically withstand 200% overbake without yellowing
